This role serves patients and providers by seating patients, capturing radiographs, preparing treatment rooms, assisting during procedures, and supporting overall patient flow throughout the day. The core purpose is to develop foundational clinical competency, adhere to established protocols, and contribute to a smooth and efficient patient experience in a fast-paced clinical environment.
CoreResponsibilities
RDA I:

- Seat patients, review health history, take vital signs, and prepare the operatory for each procedure in accordance with provider and practice expectations.
- Take and process dental radiographs accurately and in compliance with state regulations and practice-established protocols.
- Assist providers chairside during basic clinical procedures, including instrument passing, maintaining a clear operative field, and managing patient comfort throughout the appointment.
- Prepare materials, instruments, and equipment for each procedure type and ensure rooms are broken down and reset efficiently between patients.
- Support patient flow throughout the day by anticipating room turnover needs and minimizing transition time between appointments.
- Communicate basic procedural information to patients in a clear, friendly, and professional manner that supports comfort and understanding.
- Escort patients to and from treatment areas and ensure each patient is properly prepared and informed before the provider enters.
- Reinforce provider post-operative instructions and home care guidance with patients following treatment as directed.
- Follow the practice's established 30/60/90-day onboarding protocols and actively work toward achieving competency benchmarks within each phase.
- Participate in training programs, team huddles, and continuing education to develop clinical skills and earn required certifications.
- Comply with all infection control, OSHA, and HIPAA standards consistently and without exception.
Required Experience
- No prior dental assisting experience required; completion of a dental assisting program or equivalent training strongly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, a coachable attitude, and the ability to follow clinical protocols in a structured environment.
- Ability to communicate professionally with patients and team members in a fast-paced clinical setting.
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a formal dental assisting education program or certification course.
- State credentialing as required (e.g., Registered Dental Assistant, Certified Dental Assistant, or state equivalent).
- Current radiography certification as required by state.
- Prior experience in a dental office or healthcare clinical environment.
- Familiarity with dental practice management software.
