Early Learning Assistant Teacher
The Early Learning Assistant Teacher is responsible for ensuring the care, safety, and well-being of all children in the group and is expected to provide child development knowledge and leadership. The Early Learning Assistant Teacher must plan and implement a developmentally appropriate program geared to pre-school children and be able to demonstrate, verbally and by role modeling, a sound knowledge of good teaching practices.
Must have a thorough knowledge of center philosophy; policies, TDHS licensing, TNELDS, ITERS/ECERS criteria, and the ability to positively communicate them to co-workers, parents, and community. Core functions include assuring compliance with state and local regulations, helping plan and implement curriculum and program activities, assisting in the daily cleaning and maintenance of equipment, supplies and child care facility, attending staff meetings and trainings, following Y policies and procedures, maintaining positive relationships with parents and other staff, and following all Y policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
There are no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications include being 18 years of age and having a high school diploma or GED. One year or more of college preferred. Previous experience working with children preferably in a day camp setting. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred. Ability to solve practical problems, interpret instructions, add and subtract two digit numbers, and perform operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups of children or employees of the organization. Required DHS Training Courses, CPR/First Aid, and New Employee Orientation must be completed before starting work, provided by the Y. Additional training, licenses, and courses may be required throughout employment.
