Visiting Assistant Professor of Law

The visiting instructional faculty member shall have the primary responsibility of teaching and shall be held accountable for these obligations as they contribute to the attainment of the mission of the University, the School, and the Department. The position is for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year at the mutual agreement of the law school and visiting faculty member.

The Lincoln Memorial University Duncan School of Law in Knoxville, Tennessee (“LMU Law”) is seeking applications to fill visiting faculty positions for the  academic year. The full‑time teaching positions would begin as soon as July 6, 2026 and no later than August 3, 2026. The positions are for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year at the mutual agreement of the law school and visiting faculty member.

The visiting faculty members will teach required courses in subjects that may include, but not be limited to:
Property I and II, Legal Writing, Legal Research, and Academic and Bar Success courses.

Requirements for the visiting faculty position include a J.D. degree; bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction (may be inactive); a superior academic record; practice experience and/or teaching experience; a commitment to incorporating innovative teaching methods, including technology and practical skills; and dedication to the mission of LMU Law. The position would be ideal for a practicing attorney who is considering a transition to a career in academia.

• teach law school courses as assigned;
• provide course and classroom conduct as outlined in the Faculty/Staff Policy Manual;
• comply with the university Faculty/Staff Policy Manual;
• conduct office/conference hours;
• comply with announced requirements;
• promote the mission of Lincoln Memorial University to all faculty, staff, students and to the community at large;
• attend department, school and university faculty meetings (optional);
• attend commencement activities;
• participate in annual faculty evaluation; and
• perform other duties as assigned.
