The Wesley House Community Center is a Christian ministry established in 1907 to identify and build on the strengths of individuals and families to create a stronger community. We currently provide academic, emotional, and spiritual support to 100+ students. Our after-school program has an academic focus and helps students become enthusiastic learners. Our Senior Citizens Support program provides food, fun activities, and social interaction to underserved senior citizens.

The Emergent Needs program provides the Knoxville communities with groceries, household supplies, pet supplies, and more. We are located less than a mile from Downtown Knoxville and the University of Tennessee.

The Wesley House Director of Youth Services will promote the overall culture and well-being of Wesley House youth programming and serve as a liaison to the schools served by Wesley House Community Center. The Director will collaborate with the Chief Program Officer to provide relevant and engaging programs and activities for participants. The Director will ensure that day-to-day operational aspects follow licensure specifications and are detailed in nature.

Likewise, they will coordinate all planning, implementation, and assessment of events, programs, resources, and special endeavors for program participants. The Director will also provide oversight to the Wesley House Community Center Library, the only library in the neighborhood. As such, the Director will ensure that the library serves community members and program participants by creating and developing monthly community engagement activities.

Some evenings and weekends are required, and this position may require limited travel.

Key Responsibilities:

• Employ superior planning, coordination, delegation, communication, detail-orientation, and evaluation skills to develop fun, engaging, and impactful initiatives for program participants, with a strategic focus on goals and learning objectives.
• Collaborate with Knox County Schools (KCS) to ensure Wesley House programming reflects the academic, social/emotional, and spiritual needs of students who receive IEP services.
• Collaborate with Program Staff and Chief Program Officer to develop weekly lesson plans and engaging activities that are age appropriate, centered around the academic, social/emotional, and spiritual needs of program participants.
• Assist Chief Program Officer and Executive Director with grant reporting as needed.
• Develop and cultivate professional partnerships with community/business partners, including local school administration, to promote the growth and development of program participants.
• Supervise Wesley House Program Staff, providing regular coaching and evaluation, while building and maintaining consistent communication and meaningful relationships.
• Maintain healthy, meaningful relationships with Wesley House caregivers.
• Handle disciplinary incidences in alignment with the policies and guidelines of the organization, while also setting appropriate boundaries with staff and participants.
• Track student performance, behavior, and academic success and submit reports to the Chief Program Officer .
• Continuously evaluate and modify lessons implemented by Program Staff, based on intentional programmatic goals, to promote the academic and personal development of program participants.
• Measure student outcomes related to grant requirements.
• Plan educational field trips for summer programming and after school program.
• Manage expenditures within allocated program budget.
• Assist with transporting program participants to Wesley House from school and on field trips, as needed.
