We have been nominated 9 consecutive years as a best firm to work for and have offices in Atlanta, Charlotte, Chattanooga, Dallas, Knoxville, Loudoun, Nashville, Orlando, Raleigh, and Sarasota. Our projects range in scope from simple site inspections to the design of new facilities, and we work at each stage – feasibility studies, conceptual design, detailed design, and construction administration.

Together, our 10 offices have created an energized engineering powerhouse offering enhanced capabilities to our ever‑growing client base.

What You Will Do

We have an opportunity for a BIM Technician to join our growing team out of our Dallas office. The ideal candidate for this role will perform with increasing independence and be able to exercise judgment in accordance with well‑defined procedures and techniques. This opportunity requires addressing complex or unusual problems to a senior‑level technician or a supervisor as well as periodic review of output by a technical lead, supervisor, or direct “clients” of the process.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze and identify areas of opportunity within the documentation of a project and develop a set of working and review drawings to achieve the level of detail required by the client while utilizing fundamental principles of the firm to execute a successful project.
  • Collaborate and coordinate internally or externally with other disciplines to ensure deliverables are compliant with project specifications, design and model changes, client expectations, and adhere to established organizational standards and quality protocols.
  • Develop accurate, complete, and concise construction drawings and utilize information included in the contract documents to coordinate with other disciplines and internal designs.
  • Work directly with structural engineers and structural designers to produce contract documents and sketches that align with drafting standards (industry and internal to Bennett & Pless) and meet goals defined in the execution plan and project workflow criteria.
  • Apply engineering, design, and drafting knowledge and detailing practices in a dependable and efficient manner to execute contract documents.
  • Attend conferences, seminars, and workshops on behalf of the company with the intent to continue to learn and develop skills and transfer knowledge internally within the organization.
  • Keep current on best practices in BIM and BIM software, and create discipline‑specific BIM modelling content.
  • May review shop drawings and submittals.
  • Communicate effectively with the design team to ensure that changes in procedure, standards or elements within the project are effectively communicated to project teams.
  • Prepare BIM‑generated structural construction drawings for a variety of project types, including manufacturing, distribution, data center, commercial, schools, medical facilities, retail, adaptive reuse, and renovations.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; may require technical certification or associate degree.
  • 2–7 years of directly related experience.
  • Autodesk Revit proficiency is required.
  • Experience with wood, steel, load‑bearing light gauge steel, concrete, and masonry design in low to mid‑rise structures, including shallow and deep foundation systems.
Skills and Competencies
  • Readily learn and apply new information and concepts to past practices and knowledge.
  • Deviations from the established workflow are enacted in consultation with technical lead and/or approved by the supervisor before proceeding.
  • Work to support day‑to‑day operations, such as office organization and facilities management.
  • Must be a self‑starter and always willing to listen, learn, and improve.
