Graduate Mining Engineer (East Tennessee Mines; Strawberry Plains, TN) THE ROLE
The Graduate Mining Engineer reports to the Planning Superintendent and the primary role is to assist the Mine Technical Services team with operational and engineering requirements. This includes using site procedures and processes to conduct specific tasks under the direction of Senior Engineers, and includes working in office and/or Underground workplaces.
KEYACCOUNTABILITIES Safety, Health, Environment and Community
- Promote and demonstrate safe behavior at all times
- Demonstrate effective performance in achieving agreed CESS goals in support of the department, site and company standards
- Participate in daily crew safety meetings
- Take responsibility for the safety of all personnel, including yourself, at Nyrstar Tennessee Mines
- Initially will spend 12 months working as part of the underground operation team, rotating through various roles and gaining familiarity with the underground mining process. Following that will be moved to an engineering role.
- Create mining plans for the direction of operations including development plans, drilling designs, blast plans, etc.
- Conduct post mining reconciliation reviews.
- Develop 7+21 schedules to coordinate mining activities and present these to the technical and operating team.
- Liaise with other members of the operational and technical team.
- Support for and adherence to the Nyrstar Values and Behavior expectations
- Degree majoring in Mining Engineering from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Current Driver's License.
- Minimum 1-year relevant experience in the mining industry or proof of mine site intern work.
- Computer literacy Microsoft Office (extensive excel skills is a requirement).
- Demonstrate ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in all engineering tasks.
- Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
- Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.
- Good time management and prioritization skills
- Strong communication skills
- Self motivated, energetic and proactive
- High level of initiative, resourcefulness and personal organization
This is a non-management position. This is a full time position.
