Automation and Controls Technician I/II/III – Knoxville, TN
In this role, you will provide advanced technical expertise on automated production equipment, electrical controls, and laser systems. You will coordinate preventative maintenance, execute complex projects, and support round‑the‑clock operations.
Responsibilities- Advanced electrical troubleshooting of circuits and electromechanical systems
- Assist in troubleshooting advanced hydraulic issues and related electrical controls
- Advanced system troubleshooting of automated CNC & motion control systems
- Advance laser system diagnostics, troubleshooting and repair
- Resolve chronic asset issues independently when required
- Maintain compliance with all manufacturing safety practices and items
- Respond immediately to production and maintenance requests
- Confirm parts and service delivery and complete documentation
- Provide world‑class customer service and professionalism
- Participate in 5S activities for the area
- Complete all assigned preventative maintenance (PM) tasks
- Coordinate PMs with production and mechanics
- Suggest value‑adding enhancements to new and existing PMs
- Participate in the weekend on‑call rotation and respond quickly to phone calls and on‑site support within 2 hours
- Travel occasionally for training, support, preventative maintenance, and downtime support
- Participate in GPS events and continuous improvement activities when scheduled
- Maintain professional verbal communication with stakeholders and team members during shift hand‑offs
- Document work, asset changes and procedural changes in CMMS, shift reports, and hard‑copy records
- Update schematics in AutoCAD or hard copy as needed
- Report complications or issues to the A&C technical lead or immediate supervisor
- Manage and execute complex projects, adhering to all safety and electrical codes
- Order parts, create documentation, and ensure proper operation
- Specify needed parts, obtain quotes, and coordinate OEM service
- Act as liaison between manufacturing and OEM support
- Use CMMS to research machine history and document work time and parts usage
- 0–2 years of relevant work experience in industrial equipment, power distribution, or automation in manufacturing
- Associate degree in Electromechanical, Electronics, Automation, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Light engineering and project management skills
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- 2–4 years of relevant work experience in industrial equipment, power distribution, or automation in manufacturing
- Associate degree in Electromechanical, Electronics, Automation, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Programming training for Allen Bradley 500/5000 platform
- AutoCAD Electrical knowledge
- Project management skills
- Deep understanding of electrical hazards (up to 600V nominal, CAT 4, 15,000V resonator hazards)
- OEM equipment training
- 4–6 years of relevant work experience in industrial equipment, power distribution, or automation in manufacturing
- Associate degree in Electromechanical, Electronics, Automation, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Full awareness of all electrical hazards (up to 600V nominal, CAT 4, 15,000V resonator)
- Allen Bradley 500/5000, AutoCAD Electrical, GE Proficy, Trumpf LM1, and LM2 training
- Project management from start to finish
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- OEM equipment training
Travel is expected during the initial training and pre‑launch phase. After plant launch, travel will be less frequent.
Compensation & Benefits- Starting base pay range: $33.45/.hr – $50.91/.hr, based on knowledge, skills, experience, and performance

Work is performed in an office environment and requires operating standard office equipment. The role involves:
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving objects up to 10 pounds
- Repetitive motion and substantial wrist, hand, and finger activities
- Close visual acuity for data analysis, transcribing, computer use, and extensive reading
- Occasional mobility for in‑person meetings and office tasks
- Work may be performed in company setting, home, or hybrid
