This opportunity resides with Warfare Systems (WS), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. Warfare Systems comprises cyber and mission IT; electronic warfare; and C5

ISR systems.

HII, Mission Technologies has needs for Mechanical Engineers who will perform computer-aided mechanical engineering design including component design and packaging engineering, and interface design and specification, and manage risks while negotiating with design stakeholders. Our ideal applicant will have strong communication skills to negotiate design characteristics among engineers, suppliers, and program management.

Compensation for this role will be determined by several factors, including years of experience and direct involvement in supporting energy initiatives. The position may require relocation and periodic onsite work. We welcome applicants from across the country, provided they are flexible and willing to relocate and attend onsite engagements as needed.

What you will do
  • Analyze and solve complex mechanical engineering problems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement innovative mechanical solutions.
  • Contribute to the overall product architecture design.
  • Identify, articulate, and manage risks associated with mechanical, thermal, electrical, and optical systems.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including customers and technical experts.
  • Track and drive tasks through to completion, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
  • Develop and manage internal and external relationships.
What we are looking for (minimum qualifications)
  • 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; or 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field.
  • Experience executing PM activities that may include cost, schedule, engagement, etc.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Self‑motivation with strong work ethic.
  • Ability to think critically and problem‑solve in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to translate requirements into tasks and completed designs.
  • Ability to anticipate and develop mitigations for technical program risks.
  • Ability to perform fundamental analysis working from first principles.
  • Experience with Solid Works CAD tools.
  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • Experience with fabrication and methods of manufacture.
  • Strong systems thinking and ability to understand complex product architectures.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies.
  • Clearance:
    Active secret security clearance.
  • Experience engineering hardware for Department of Defense.
  • Experience with Solid Works Product Data Management.
  • Experience with FEA and CFD analysis.
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
Physical Requirements
  • May require working in an office, industrial, or laboratory environment.
  • Capable of climbing ladders and tolerating confined spaces and extreme temperature variances.
