Salary: $100,000 - $140,000 per year.
A bit about usA large, established industrial manufacturing operation in East Tennessee is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to support a critical production department. This is a day-shift role focused on equipment reliability, engineered solutions, and long-term performance improvement across operations, maintenance, and safety. This position serves as a senior technical resource for mechanical systems and large equipment, with responsibility for troubleshooting complex issues, leading rebuilds and upgrades, and driving preventative strategies.

The Staff Mechanical Engineer provides engineering support to manufacturing and maintenance teams to restore production flow, resolve chronic equipment issues, and improve overall equipment reliability. This role uses data analysis, root cause methods, and hands-on engineering expertise to develop and implement durable solutions. The engineer also manages larger mechanical projects and serves as a technical authority for equipment within the department.
Key Responsibilities- Provide mechanical engineering support to operations and maintenance, including breakdown response and off-shift support as needed
- Troubleshoot mechanical and process issues to root cause and develop engineered corrective actions
- Design, justify, and manage large equipment rebuilds and mechanical improvement projects from concept through installation
- Develop preventative maintenance strategies and reliability improvements for critical assets
- Serve as the technical subject matter expert for assigned equipment and systems
- Partner with maintenance, safety, quality, and operations to meet performance and compliance goals
- Support continuous improvement efforts related to equipment performance, safety, and quality
- Communicate effectively with cross‑functional teams and leadership regarding technical findings and recommendations
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a mechanical engineering role within a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
- 7 or more years of mechanical engineering experience in heavy manufacturing or industrial operations
- Experience designing, fabricating, and installing mechanical equipment
- Proven experience justifying, managing, and executing capital or major maintenance projects
- Working knowledge of CAD tools such as Solid Works or similar platforms
- Strong background supporting maintenance and reliability efforts
- Hands‑on understanding of lubrication systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics
- Familiarity with manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills
