Overview
GEI’s Knoxville Branch is looking for a mid‑level Geotechnical Engineer, Geological Engineer, or Engineering Geologist to join a project team providing geotechnical, geostructural, and construction quality assurance oversight services to clients at local, regional, and national levels.
Responsibilities- Perform field work related to geotechnical explorations and construction projects.
- Produce daily and weekly field reports supporting project activities.
- Communicate effectively with the Senior Engineer, Project Manager, and other team members.
- Interface with clients and subcontractors, responding to their requests.
- Assist Senior Engineer/Project Manager in preparing and reviewing boring logs, lab assignments, calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports.
- Provide oversight of subcontractors such as drillers and contractors.
- Assist in preparing Health and Safety Plans and Quality Plans.
- General understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and analysis methods.
- Ability to interpret sketches, engineering drawings, and related documents.
- Field experience with geotechnical drill rigs and construction monitoring/oversight/testing.
- Experience on earthwork and concrete construction projects.
- Willingness to work 50–75% of working hours in the field.
- Availability for out‑of‑town travel and overtime.
- Familiarity with geotechnical laboratory test methods.
- Familiarity with geological formations in the Tennessee regions.
- Basic experience in Microsoft Office; familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bluebeam Revu, Geo Studio, and gINT is preferred or willingness to be trained.
- Strong attention to detail, good analytical and judgment capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of geophysics techniques is preferred or willingness to be trained.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Engineering Geology.
- FE/EIT certification required.
- Minimum 3–5 years of project experience.
