Contract:
Permanent, full‑time. Reporting to:
Engineering Resource Manager.
This role involves providing conceptual, preliminary and final design of systems and components for our stellarator fusion power plants, working on vacuum vessels, divertors, and plasma-facing components. Responsibilities include complex concept design development and optimization, CAD and engineering drawings, engineering analysis, laboratory testing, design reviews, TRL assessments, translating design requirements, developing technical specifications, FEA/CFD modeling with ANSYS/COMSOL, interface analysis, interpreting simulation results, procurement package development, and resolving technical questions during fabrication.
Key Responsibilities- Conceptual, preliminary and final design of systems and components for stellarator fusion power plants.
- Complex concept design development and optimization, including CAD/engineering drawings, engineering analysis and laboratory testing.
- Design reviews and TRL assessments.
- Translate design requirements into functional stellarator components and systems.
- Develop system and component designs and associated technical specifications.
- Develop and validate FEA and CFD models using ANSYS, COMSOL, and other tools.
- Analyze and align interface requirements among stellarator systems.
- Interpret simulation results to deliver actionable insights for design optimization and performance improvement.
- Develop procurement packages.
- Resolve technical questions that arise during fabrication efforts.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Master’s degree preferred).
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Expert in mechanical design principles, failure modes, and lifecycle reliability.
- Demonstrated experience in engineering analysis using ANSYS or COMSOL.
- Skilled in balancing trade-offs across performance, manufacturability, and regulation.
- Experience with design of first‑of‑a‑kind components.
- Familiarity with computer‑aided design and analysis software.
- Desirable experience with fusion energy systems and equipment.
- Highly desirable experience with Siemens NX CAD software.
- Experience operating within a PDM environment in CAD.
