Protection & Control Designer

Position

Mesa Associates, Inc seeks a Protection & Control Designer with 4–6 years of design experience for power delivery substations.

This position is hybrid, based in our Knoxville office. Occasional overnight trips to Arkansas, Southeast Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi may be required.

• Design protection & control systems for high, medium, and low voltage substations.
• Utilize protection and control relays, metering, instrument transformers (CTs/PTs), power transformers, AC auxiliary power, and DC/Battery controls.
• Generate project drawings, including one‑line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring connections, and front/rear view panel/equipment layouts using AutoCAD and/or Micro Station.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and clients to ensure design solutions meet technical and regulatory requirements.
• Perform site visits and support field implementation when necessary.

• 4–6 years of design experience in protection & control systems for substations.
• Strong knowledge of protection & control relay logic, metering, CT/PT, transformers, and associated instrumentation.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Micro Station design software packages.
• Advanced CAD skills are required; intermediate electrical design knowledge is preferred.
• Associates degree or better in Engineering is preferred.
• Valid electrical engineering license or relevant certification is a plus.
