Bechtel is the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partner on the Northrop Grumman team to deliver the Sentinel Program, which is modernizing the ground‑based leg of the U.S. nuclear deterrent triad, including intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) systems and launch infrastructure. Bechtel’s scope of service in Sentinel’s current Engineering & Manufacturing Development phase focuses on the ground infrastructure component of the program.
Note:
This position may include other project work, aside from the Sentinel project, within the Knoxville Execution Center.
In this role, you will plan and conduct independent work, requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Under the supervision of a Control Systems discipline Engineering supervisor, you will lead a team of Control Systems personnel, estimate project staffing needs, schedule and assign work. You will prepare discipline estimates and work plans, and review and approve Control Systems deliverables and studies.
Your leadership will drive high quality work plans, successful implementation of Control System components, team support, training, and project performance. Occasional business travel may be required.
- Plans, develops, directs, and participates in the day‑to‑day Control Systems engineering activity on medium sized projects or a portion of a major project with moderate complexity, utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures, design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Translates project scoping documents to system design.
- Supervises, coordinates, and reviews the work of personnel assigned, estimates staffing needs and schedules and assigns work accordingly.
- Provides the technical input to meet procurement requirements.
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of Control Systems discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.
- Reviews and makes recommendations for the Control Systems engineering aspects of bid evaluations and awards for approval by project engineering.
- When directed, coordinates with client representatives to obtain their approval of Control Systems engineering aspects of the work.
- Reviews and approves key calculations, design documents (e.g., P&IDs, logic diagrams, control narratives, physical layout drawing, etc.), supplier drawings and data, specifications, material requisitions, and change orders, for the project.
- Ensures that assigned Control Systems engineering personnel receive appropriate on‑the‑job training for their professional development.
- Participates in performance evaluations for assigned Control Systems engineering personnel.
Requires bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical Engineering, or other related Engineering field from an accredited institution with 10‑13 years of relevant experience, or 14‑17 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree.
Required Knowledge and SkillsRequired:
- US citizenship
- Experience with design of Department of Defense and/or Department of Energy facilities
- Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)
