Job Summary

Position:
Power System Analysis Fall Student Employee.

Location:

Knoxville, TN. The internship supports R&D projects related to grid modeling and stability analysis with high levels of inverter‑based renewable resources. The role requires availability in the 2026 Fall semester (August–December).

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Run dynamic simulations in software such as PSS/E and PSLF and individual device models (e.g., inverter‑based resources and large loads).
  • Run PSCAD software.
  • Work with inverter‑based resource controls and understand their impact on the power system.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2years of PhD studies in Electrical Engineering focusing on Power Systems.
  • Ideally a PhD student with an emphasis on power systems.
  • Strong experience with control‑system theory and analysis.
  • Experience with wind/solar inverter modeling and simulation (preferred).
  • Strong experience with electromagnetic transient simulation tools (preferably PSCAD).
  • Strong experience with electromechanical dynamics simulation tools (preferably PSS/E and PSLF).
  • Strong programming skills (preferably in Python and MATLAB).
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
Hourly Rate
  • Undergraduate: $16–$29 per hour
  • Master’s: $27–$33 per hour
  • Ph.D.: $31–$36 per hour
Benefits
  • The student is not eligible for EPRI’s benefit programs (health insurance, retirement benefits, vacation, sick leave, holiday pay). However, benefits of Social Security, State Disability Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation Insurance are available.
  • Relocation assistance is not provided; the student will cover all relocation costs/expenses.
