Senior Transportation Engineer – Roadway

A nationally recognized engineering firm is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer to support and lead roadway design efforts across Tennessee. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to complex transportation projects that improve long-term mobility and infrastructure performance.

The ideal candidate brings strong roadway design expertise, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary transportation teams.

The Senior Transportation Engineer will play a key role in roadway design and technical oversight. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local requirements while contributing to high-quality project delivery across transportation corridors, structures, and related infrastructure systems.

This position offers flexibility to be based in Knoxville, Chattanooga, or Nashville, with periodic travel required.

• Lead and review roadway design projects to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams across transportation, traffic, structures, and related specialties
• Review and refine design documents to meet quality and technical standards
• Conduct site visits and support construction inspections as required
• Collaborate with business development teams on proposals and client engagement efforts
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers
• Stay current with industry trends, tools, and regulatory updates

• 8 plus years of progressive transportation or roadway design experience

• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local transportation standards

• Experience working within state DOT environments

• Professional Engineer license preferred

• Strong technical writing and communication skills

• Experience supporting or leading proposal development is a plus
