Job SummaryAs a HVAC Layout Designer, you will support design development of facility layouts and piping & equipment 3D models for various projects as part of the NS&E execution center team. The projects involve government work throughout various sectors including DOE and DOD, as well as commercial nuclear projects and business development projects. This position is designated as part-time telework and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.
MajorResponsibilities
- 3D modeling of HVAC ducts and equipment in a 3D model environment.
- Preparation of drawings/documents for general arrangements and HVAC orthographic drawings.
- Assist with coordination of 3D model activities (input, interference reconciliation, etc.) with other related disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with approved PD&P design standards and applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.
- Review and check calculations, design models, drawings, and design documents prepared by assigned designers/drafters for quality, accuracy, neatness, functionality, and satisfactory completion.
- Participate in constructability reviews.
- Interface with support engineers, construction, and suppliers during preparation of 3D models and drawings for model/space control.
- Take responsibility for accuracy of bulk material quantity take-offs and material requisitions for applicable discipline.
- Coordinate overall design and technical requirements with designers in other disciplines.
- Develop work plans, budgets, and schedules for basic PD&P designer tasks based on input and direction from supervisor.
- Answer questions from client or construction group on PD&P design scope.
- Generate 2D drawings or 3D CAD design models of high complexity with minimal guidance from others.
Requires a bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills- Must be a US citizen.
- Hands‑on experience using Smart Plant S3D modeling platform.
- Understanding of various HVAC system types, components, equipment and control systems.
- Knowledge of national building codes and an understanding of ASHRAE standards.
- Knowledge and understanding of the use of the V&IDs.
- Preferred: previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment, education and travel.
