Professional Project Services Inc. has an upcoming opportunity for Mechanical Engineer IV-HVAC (Direct Hire) positions at our offices in Oak Ridge, TN.
Job DescriptionPrinciple Areas of Responsibility: HVAC design, development of process flow diagrams, selection and layout of mechanical equipment and piping systems, mechanical construction and equipment specifications, test and inspection plans, and system design descriptions.
- Hands‑on CAD using Microstation and/or AutoCAD MEP and/or Revit platforms.
- Heating and cooling load calculations with industry software (Trane Trace, HAP).
- Communicate with equipment vendors to determine product requirements.
- Field verification and take‑offs of existing systems for renovation projects.
- Coordinate with other disciplines (fire protection, architectural, structural, electrical, etc.) for HVAC details.
- Understand work planning and manage design process to available hours and schedule.
- Generate calculations, design analyses, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Mechanical wet and dry piping systems (all systems) including heating and chilled water hydronic piping, natural gas piping, domestic water and waste water piping, steam and condensate piping, compressed air systems, and mechanical system controls.
- Piping layout design.
- Facilities layout.
- Plumbing.
- Knowledge of federal requirements for life‑cycle cost analyses of energy‑consuming systems and building envelope alternatives.
- Built‑up AHUs, Chillers, VAVs, HVAC, Process Exhaust.
- DOE, DOD and nuclear experience is a plus.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; a Master’s degree in Engineering is a plus.
- Eight years or more of progressive experience in Mechanical Engineering (HVAC).
- Demonstrated competency in design of common HVAC systems and equipment, including both air and hydronic equipment as well as building controls.
- Extensive knowledge of codes and standards, including ICC, ASHRAE, ASME, IBC and NFPA.
- Leadership of internal teams in production of design packages including HVAC and plumbing.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Familiarity with plumbing system design and relevant codes.
- Working knowledge of computers and software such as AutoCAD and Microstation, Microsoft Office Suite, and other technical applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
