Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Senior Bridge Engineer to join our team and lead innovative transportation infrastructure projects across the Southeast. In this role, you will take technical ownership of bridge replacement, repair, inspection, and load rating projects while mentoring junior engineers and partnering closely with transportation clients. This position can be based in Knoxville (preferred), Nashville or Chattanooga, TN.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as a technical leader on the analysis, design, and delivery of prestressed concrete, reinforced concrete, and structural steel bridges, guiding projects from preliminary engineering through final construction plans
- Lead TDOT bridge repair contracts to ensure final plans meet the highest quality standards and conduct site evaluations to identify and quantify required repairs
- Assist with bridge safety inspections and ensure all bridge work incorporates AASHTO, LRFD, and state-specific design criteria
- Perform and oversee structural analysis, design calculations, and plans production for transportation bridge projects
- Develop efficient structural layouts that balance strength, durability, cost, and constructability while coordinating with roadway, geotechnical, hydraulics, and construction engineers
- Collaborate directly with clients and reviewers to address comments, resolve technical issues, and maintain project schedules
- Provide hands-on technical mentorship to junior engineers through design guidance and quality reviews
- Support proposal development and participate in client meetings, industry events, and internal initiatives
- Proficiency with Bentley Open Bridge software suite for bridge plans production and design
- Strong working knowledge of engineering analysis/design software
- Solid understanding of engineering design principles and their practical application
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office business software (Excel, Word, etc.)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations
- Ability to arrange and layout structural systems and elements for strength, stability, constructability, and construction economy
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural, or Structural Engineering or related discipline
- Professional Engineering (PE) license
- 7 years of related bridge design and engineering experience
- Equivalent additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required, with frequency contingent on project demands and workload
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering/Structural
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Tennessee or ability to obtain within 3 months
