Mechanical Designer

Location:

Knoxville, TN 37902 Work Environment:
Onsite | Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Pay Range: $35–$55 per hour

Position Overview

M Force Partners is seeking a Mechanical Designer to support the development of complex mechanical systems, equipment, and facility designs for industrial and government projects. This position will focus on producing detailed 3D models, fabrication packages, plant layouts, piping designs, and equipment drawings while ensuring compliance with applicable engineering codes and regulatory requirements.

The ideal Mechanical Designer has 2–4 years of relevant industrial design experience with strong working proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD Plant 3D. This individual should also have experience with Inventor and/or Solid Works and a strong understanding of ASME codes, mechanical design fundamentals, piping systems, and fabrication drawings.

The Mechanical Designer will collaborate with engineers and multidisciplinary project teams to develop accurate, buildable designs for highly regulated industrial environments, including Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Energy (DOE) projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce detailed 3D equipment models and build-to-print fabrication packages for specialty and first-of-a-kind equipment
  • Use Revit and AutoCAD Plant 3D to develop mechanical designs, plant layouts, piping systems, and equipment models
  • Develop plant, facility, equipment, piping, and site general arrangement drawings
  • Create elevations, sections, detailed views, and supporting engineering drawings
  • Produce detailed design and fabrication drawings for process equipment, facility equipment, ASME piping, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical supports
  • Develop complex mechanical models and fabrication drawings using Inventor and/or Solid Works
  • Coordinate with engineers and multidisciplinary project teams to develop layouts and resolve technical design issues
  • Interpret and apply applicable Federal, State, and Local codes and standards, including DOE Orders
  • Ensure mechanical designs comply with applicable ASME codes and engineering standards
  • Support the design of containment systems, sheet metal equipment, and other mechanical systems
  • Collect and compile field data to support engineering and design activities
  • Participate in site walkdowns and support development of accurate as-built documentation
  • Assist with material takeoffs, estimates, and procurement documentation
  • Review technical specifications and incorporate requirements into engineering drawings and models
  • Organize and prioritize design activities to meet established project schedules and deadlines
  • Communicate technical questions, design concerns, and project requirements with engineering and project team members
  • Maintain accurate and organized design documentation throughout the project lifecycle
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant professional experience
  • 2–4 years of relevant industrial mechanical design experience
  • Demonstrated professional experience using Revit for mechanical design, equipment modeling, and facility layouts
  • Demonstrated professional experience using AutoCAD Plant 3D for plant layout and piping systems
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience using Inventor and/or Solid Works for complex mechanical modeling and fabrication drawings
  • Strong knowledge of ASME codes and standards
  • Working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local codes and standards
  • Knowledge of DOE Orders and requirements applicable to engineering and design projects
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design fundamentals
  • Experience developing detailed mechanical and fabrication drawings
  • Experience with piping, process equipment, facility equipment, or related industrial mechanical systems
  • Knowledge of containment systems and sheet metal equipment
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and translate engineering requirements into detailed drawings
  • Ability to collect and document field information and support site walkdowns
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting defined project schedules
