Electrical Designer

Knoxville, TN 37902 Work Environment:
Onsite | Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Pay Range: $80,000–$105,000
M Force Partners is seeking an experienced Electrical Designer to support the design and development of electrical power distribution, industrial controls, and instrumentation systems for complex industrial projects. This position will be responsible for developing electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, specifications, and supporting documentation while ensuring designs meet applicable project requirements, codes, and industry standards.
The ideal Electrical Designer has 4–15 years of relevant experience with electrical power distribution and industrial control systems, including PLC and DCS applications. This individual should have strong CAD experience and an understanding of NEC, IEEE, NEMA, IEC, ISA, and other applicable electrical standards.
The Electrical Designer will collaborate with electrical engineers, project managers, mechanical designers, controls professionals, suppliers, contractors, and other disciplines throughout the design and execution of industrial projects.
Key Responsibilities- Develop electrical and controls system designs, schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts using CAD software
- Prepare electrical drawings and design packages in accordance with project specifications and applicable industry standards
- Support the design and specification of electrical power distribution, industrial control, and instrumentation systems
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to develop electrical plans that meet project requirements
- Prepare and maintain technical specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), calculations, and supporting design documentation
- Ensure designs comply with applicable electrical codes and standards, including NEC, IEEE, NEMA, PIP, IEC, and ISA requirements
- Review electrical drawings and plans for accuracy, completeness, constructability, and compliance
- Revise drawings and design documents based on engineering reviews and changing project requirements
- Conduct onsite surveys and facility walkdowns to evaluate existing electrical systems and gather field information
- Translate field data and project requirements into accurate electrical drawings and design documentation
- Manage design requirements, including requirements extraction, functional and operational requirements, design document flow-down, procurement specifications, and verification activities
- Coordinate electrical design activities with mechanical, instrumentation and controls, HVAC, piping, fabrication, construction, and other disciplines
- Coordinate technical requirements with suppliers, subcontractors, fabrication teams, maintenance personnel, and construction contractors
- Perform peer reviews and formal design verification of electrical design documents
- Identify and troubleshoot electrical and controls design issues and develop effective technical solutions
- Assist with project scheduling, cost estimating, and multidisciplinary coordination
- Provide technical direction and troubleshooting support throughout project execution
- Communicate project requirements, technical concerns, and design decisions with engineers, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders
- Complete design activities according to established project schedules and deadlines
- 2-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Design, Drafting, or a related technical discipline
- 4–15 years of relevant electrical design experience
- Experience designing and specifying electrical power distribution systems
- Experience designing industrial control systems, including PLC and/or DCS applications
- Experience supporting multidisciplinary industrial design projects
- Experience producing electrical design packages including drawings, specifications, calculations, and related documentation
- Strong working knowledge of CAD design and modeling software such as AutoCAD, Micro Station, Revit, or similar platforms
- Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70)
