Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Legal Assistant (Paralegal) to support attorneys at a State Agency in Knoxville, TN. The ideal candidate will bring at least 2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal in a government agency, law firm, or civil litigation setting.
This is a full-time, onsite role (5 days/week) with garage parking provided. Remote or hybrid work is not available for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage casework from referral through resolution, including documentation and tracking.
- Conduct research, review, and gather case-related information.
- Draft legal pleadings and correspondence using templates.
- File documents with courts and communicate with court clerks.
- Schedule court reporters, prepare trial exhibits, and organize witness lists.
- Perform service of process by certified mail or through process servers.
- Organize and maintain electronic and hard copy legal files.
- Create and update Excel spreadsheets to track case statuses.
- Proofread all documents and ensure accuracy in legal communications.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive documents and communications.
- Provide professional customer service and outreach to internal and external parties.
- Support attorneys proactively and complete tasks independently.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal (civil litigation preferred).
- Education: Some college required;
Paralegal certificate or completion of Paralegal program preferred. - Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to use multiple databases efficiently.
- Strong skills in proofreading, filing, scheduling, and email correspondence.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Professional demeanor and commitment to confidentiality.
