Description
Job SummaryThe Hot and Cold Steel Inspection Operator is responsible for inspecting forged and machined steel parts to ensure they meet customer and company quality standards. This role involves visual and dimensional inspections of parts in both hot and cold conditions, identifying surface defects, and maintaining accurate inspection records.
Requirements EssentialJob Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform visual inspection of hot and cold forged steel components for defects such as cracks, laps, scale, or surface irregularities.
- Utilize measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.) to verify part dimensions meet specifications.
- Inspect parts according to customer drawings, process sheets, and inspection standards.
- Monitor product flow to ensure quality requirements are met throughout production.
- Segregate nonconforming parts and properly tag and document them for review.
- Complete all inspection reports, check sheets, and data entry accurately and timely.
- Communicate defects or abnormalities immediately to the Supervisor or Quality personnel.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas following 5S and safety guidelines.
- Wear appropriate PPE and follow all safety procedures, especially in high-temperature (hot inspection) areas.
- Assist with, sorting, and rework as needed.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in quality audits
- Meet certification requirements to be a minimum of a level 1 MPI inspector.
- Utilize metallurgy equipment to check various Metallurgy testing (ex. hardness testing).
- Utilize metallurgy lab preparation equipment for preparation of parts for testing.
- Utilize measurement data collection software as required
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or forging environment preferred.
- Knowledge of basic measurement tools and inspection techniques.
- Ability to read blueprints, part drawings, and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in hot and cold environments.
- Computer/data entry skills for inspection documentation. (excel, word).
- Level 1 MPI inspector.
- Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to min 40 lbs
- Tolerate exposure to high heat, noise, and heavy industrial environment.
- Use of required PPE including safety glasses, gloves, ear protection, and steel-toe boots.
