Job Description

University Physicians' Association is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time Medical Assistant (MA) / Medical Scribe position at University Dermatology located at the UT Medical Center. Candidates must be detail-oriented and able to work under deadlines in a very fast-paced office. This position will work closely with physicians to provide a seamless patient experience.

Job Type: Part‑Time (Monday – Thursday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.)

Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain efficient patient flow in the clinic.
  • Check in patients, obtain accurate vitals, review medical histories, and medications.
  • Accurately document appropriate patient visit information and any communication in the EMR.
  • E‑prescribe prescriptions under direct physician supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and act as liaison between patients and physician.
  • Maintain exam rooms with appropriate supplies.
  • Answer patient phone calls and questions per physician protocol.
  • Assist with scheduling outside tests and referrals as requested per physician.
  • Assist with scheduling surgeries and obtaining authorization as required.
  • Follow up with patients on test results and after surgeries.
  • Complete FMLA forms as directed by physician.
  • Obtain authorization for medications not listed as formulary.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment in clinic areas and examination rooms, following OSHA protocols.
  • Maintain and sterilize equipment per OSHA protocols.
  • Respect and maintain dignity of all patients.
  • Inventory clinic supplies regularly to maintain adequate supply for efficient patient flow.
  • Assist physicians with in‑office procedures and other patient‑related activities as requested.
  • Participate in staff meetings and educational activities as required.
  • Other duties as requested by Office Supervisor.
Requirements
  • Good listener, with attention to detail, and ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Ability to type 50 words per minute or above (preferred).
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to document patient care as dictated by a physician in a legible and clear manner, following all local, state, and federal documentation guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Familiarity with inputting patient information into an EMR system is preferred but not required.
