Parkwest is a premier medical facility located in West Knoxville, Tennessee.
2 Riverstone, Critical Care Unit:
Parkwest Critical Care Unit (CCU) is located on the second floor of Parkwest Medical Center’s main hospital. The CCU is a 30‑bed department comprising 20 medical, surgical, neurological, and renal beds and 10 dedicated Cardiovascular Intensive Care (CVICU) beds. The department is a locked unit for patient safety and privacy. We specialize in high-level care for critically ill patients, including Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT).
Our CVICU specializes in the care of patients requiring Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) procedures, Impellas, and Intra‑aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP).
We follow a 12‑hour shift, weekends/holidays on a six‑week schedule. Team members utilize a self‑scheduling model; employee requests are accommodated during scheduling to balance departmental needs.

Position Summary:
Provides professional nursing care within a designated Critical Care unit; coordinates care planning with other disciplines. This is a Clinical Expert that practices in accordance with evidence‑based nursing standards and practices; serves as a leader and role model to others; demonstrates advanced clinical skills in caring for complex critically ill patients.
Note:
Incumbents in this job classification are expected to accept assignments to meet Critical Care needs in other Covenant Health facilities as needed.
- Correlates patient history and support systems within hospital care/nursing home care.
- Assesses needs of patient and family.
- Develops and initiates plan of care, involving patient and family.
- Consistently recommends and executes evidence‑based bundles, protocols, and procedural interventions to promote patient safety and reduce harm events.
- Evaluates plan of care.
- Demonstrates clinical expertise and knowledge sufficient to resolve complex patient/management/physician problems without supervision.
- Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include delivery of care appropriate to the age‑specific needs of the population served.
- Formally trained and acts as a coach for new employees/students; reviews clinical performance of preceptee with unit leader or clinical instructor.
- Provides six contact hours of educational activities, excluding basic patient education.
- Contributes to development and evaluation of unit orientation program.
- Serves as a resource to peers and supervises non‑licensed care givers; intervenes to improve patient care and safety as needed.
- Functions as a role model to peers by cross‑training to other departments and serving as a resource person.
- Member of an established committee or process‑improvement team with 75% participation in meetings.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards; completes required education assignments annually; works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education:
None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.
Minimum Experience:
Minimum of two (2) years of RN experience in an Intensive/Critical Care setting.
Licensure Requirement:
Must have and maintain Tennessee State Registered Nurse licensure and Critical Care Certification (CCRN or equivalent). CPR required.
