Join the McNabb Center Team as the Crisis Stabilization Unit RN today! The Crisis Stabilization Unit RN Job Purpose/Summary
- Serves as a clinical member of the multi-disciplinary team, providing treatment, rehabilitation, and support for client population.
- The CSU RN must be adept at multi-tasking.
- Provides direct medical care to clients in a CSU setting including clients in varying levels of crisis, frequently working with SPMI and clients with co-occurring issues.
- RN collaborates with Mobile Crisis and Walk in Center assisting with clients being referred to higher level of care, completing S-BARs.
- This position requires the RN to provide direct medical care to clients, during 12-hour shifts, on a residential Crisis Stabilization Unit.
- This position is required to provide nursing covering on a 12-hour shift despite any weather conditions or holidays that arise.
- Required to be certified in and adequately implement verbal and physical de-escalation techniques that include a wide range of bodily movements including but not limited to grasping, holding another person, and going down on knees, running, and walking.
- Position is based within Crisis Services that provides services 24/7.
- The role of the CSU RN is to ensure that coverage is provided 24/7 despite any weather conditions that may arise.
- This position requires working different shifts as needed.
- Must remain awake and alert during shift to monitor client safety.

- Attends treatment team as available.
- Responds to all flags, emails, and voicemails within 1-2 business days.
- Returns calls within 15 minutes.
- Assists with administering medications and providing staff coverage as needed.
- Clearly communicates to team members throughout shift regarding client behaviors, needs, and any other relevant information.
- Works in a multi-disciplinary team to meet the needs of the clients served.
- Demonstrates a consideration and concern for fellow workers and their jobs and promotes harmonious relationships and attitudes.
- Willingness to accept additional assignments and / or changes in assignment and/or work duties.
- Promotes an environment in which the customs and spiritual beliefs of the individual are respected.
- Communicates directly and approaches conflict with a problem-solving approach.
- Performs the initial admission nursing assessment and completes required admission paperwork including nursing assessment, nursing note and nursing admission orders.
- Update medication tabs.
- Update allergy lists.
- Complete paper MAR.
- Obtain urine drug screen, BAL and pregnancy tests upon admission.
- Follows all established protocols and guidelines for admission prior to admitting the client to the unit.
- Makes the determination of the appropriate admission protocols needed for each client (ex.
-agitation protocol, diabetic protocol, HTN protocol). - Obtains admission orders from the on-call prescriber in a timely manner.
- Completes charting for each client during every shift prior to the end of shift.
- Completes transition paperwork and discusses medication and aftercare instructions with client and/or family. Provides copy of paperwork for clients.
- Counts controlled substances and documents at every shift change. Notify supervisor immediately of any discrepancies.
- Obtains and charts vital signs on every shift.
- Monitor for significant changes in client's condition/behavior every shift and make referrals to obtain new orders as needed.
- Administer scheduled, routine, and PRN medication in a timely manner.
- Obtains blood sugars as ordered.
- Triages potential referrals with Mobile Crisis and Walk in Center.
- Coordinates arrival times for potential clients with Mobile Crisis, Walk in Center and Transporters
- Complete C-SSRS on each client
- Attend to guest and/or client needs during medical emergencies (ie: seizures, falls, etc)
- Coordinate with Emergency Departments and EMS
- Obtain Prior Authorizations
- Answer phone calls from recently transitioned guests regarding medication issues
- Weekly medication counts of routine medications
- Update Admission/Discharge log each time a client is admitted or transitioned from unit.
- Complete follow-up calls on weekends in accordance to program requirements.
- Perform the initial medical assessment of individual within 30 minutes of arrival.
- Makes a determination of the appropriate protocols upon admission.
