Job Description
The Sr. Welding Inspector must assure proper welding and radiographic procedures are qualified and utilized, radiographers are certified, welders are qualified, sound welds are produced, and proper documentation is maintained.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:- Plan and organize inspection duties in advance
- Assure design changes or material substitutions are discussed with the Chief Inspection and proper Company approval is obtained
- Ensure the radiographer’s certification is complete and correct, acceptable radiographic procedures are established, the technician(s) has a copy of the Company specifications, current API‑1104 edition, and is familiar with Company procedures for film identification, form completion, documentation for the disposition of rejects, etc. The Sr. Welding Inspector should be knowledgeable in film interpretation, though not responsible for interpreting the film.
- Be familiar with approved construction drawings and Company specifications
- Understand the Contract document as it relates to duties on the project
- Complete and submit applicable inspection reports that accurately describe work performed on the project
- Verify all materials used are in compliance with Company requirements
- Ensure a welding procedure is established
- Review the correct WPS prior to welding to assure proper technique
- Verify each welder is qualified for the work they are performing
- Observe the x‑ray procedure (developing and handling) to ensure it is appropriate and produces acceptable radiographs
- Ensure Radiographer’s certifications are current and in accordance with SNC‑TC‑1A
- Continuously observe welding technique and radiographic procedure to assure proper procedures are followed
- Coordinate the radiographic crew’s activities with contractor
- Monitor weld quality to ensure sound welds at all joints
- Ensure repairs correct defects and satisfy required codes and Company specifications
- Ensure proper documentation is maintained by the radiographic crew, including disposition of each reject
- API 1169
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- CWI
- NACE 2
- 10 years hands‑on experience
- 5 years supervisor experience
- Calibrated Welding and Coating Inspection Kit
- Station Experience
