Job Description
The Mechanobiology of Morphogenesis Laboratory at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) has a position available for a Research Associate starting in the Fall of 2026 or Spring of 2027. The selected Research Associate will work in a team setting to support scientific research in the lab of Dr. Weiyi Qian at the Department of Biomedical Engineering. This role involves the comprehensive management of our state-of-the-art zebrafish aquaculture facility.
Key responsibilities include the care, breeding, and rearing of zebrafish, as well as conducting genotyping and phenotyping procedures to support ongoing research.
In this role, the successful candidate is also responsible for conducting independent basic science experimentation based on research conducted in the assigned laboratory under the mentorship of a senior scientist. An individual is expected to seek to build a portfolio of research accomplishments in preparation for acquiring a higher degree in biomedical research or medicine (Ph.D. or M.D., for example).
This is a temporary, part-time (28 hours/week) position.
ResponsibilitiesRequired Qualifications
- Education: College graduate with a Bachelor's in Biological Sciences (Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or Genetics).
- Experience: Prior research experience in a laboratory setting.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Capable of communicating well in English (both orally and in writing).
- Self-motivation.
- Have enthusiasm for science, scientific discussions, and running experiments.
- Have the ability to work alone and with others.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment-based visa status.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's in Biology, Fisheries, or related fields.
- Experience: Prior Aquaculture experience.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Basic understanding of Mendelian genetics.
