Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a Tier 1 vendor for the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and we are recruiting for an entry level Archaeologist, for a 6-month contract assignment supporting the Knoxville, TN office.

Up to $31.00 / hour Position Summary We are seeking an Entry-Level Archaeologist for a 6-month contract opportunity supporting corporate operations in Knoxville, Tennessee. This role combines desk-based reviews and research with potential field reconnaissance. As a key contributor to land use actions and environmental compliance, you will assist in identifying, evaluating, and documenting cultural resources to ensure alignment with regional regulatory frameworks, including Section 26a of the TVA Act.
Key Responsibilities Cultural Resource Reviews:
Evaluate proposed land use actions and project sites to determine whether an office review is sufficient or if field reconnaissance and surveys are required. Field Reconnaissance & Surveys:
Assist in conducting archaeological fieldwork to identify cultural resources that could be impacted by proposed actions. Stratify project areas into sampling units across both horizontal surfaces and subterranean testing contexts. Laboratory Analysis:
Assist in the laboratory analysis, classification, and evaluation of recovered archaeological specimens to determine historical usage and produce anthropological data. Reporting & Compliance:
Draft comprehensive archaeological reports based on survey data and lab findings, providing formal recommendations for cultural resource clearance. Regulatory Learning:
Engage in progressive developmental assignments to gain deep familiarity with environmental and cultural resource compliance standards.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Post-graduate degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Anthropology (Prehistory specialization preferred), Archaeology, or a closely related field. Technical
Skills:
Strong foundational knowledge of archaeological field methods, subterranean sampling techniques, and specimen identification/classification. Communication:
Clear written and verbal communication skills for compiling technical reports and collaborating across project teams. Flexibility:
Willingness to perform remote desk research as well as travel for field work as required by project needs.
