Entry-Level Archaeologist
Developmental assignments are made to familiarize the incumbent with Section 26A of the TVA Act and land use actions. Progressively more difficult assignments will be made leading to the competency required for an Archaeologist, Senior. Determines whether office review is adequate, or if field reconnaissance/survey is necessary. Makes recommendations for cultural resource clearance. Assists in archaeological reconnaissance to identify archaeological resources that could be potentially impacted by proposed TVA actions.
Involves the ability to stratify project or activity areas into sampling units, both horizontally on the ground surface and vertically in subterranean testing. Assists in laboratory analysis and evaluation of archaeological specimens recovered from reconnaissance and using resultant data, writes reports. Laboratory analysis and evaluation involves identification, classification, and induction concerning how archaeological specimens were used. Deduction is required in producing anthropological data.
Resultant data is used in the writing of an archaeological report. Education and experience/certificates, licenses, and registration requirements/other requirements post-graduate degree in anthropology (prehistory specialization) or equivalent, archaeology, or closely related field.
