Position Details: On-site position requiring a criminal background check.
OverviewUnder general supervision, responsible for institutional and related security work of average difficulty; performs related work as required. Entry-level class in security guard sub-series; may work any shift providing a full range of institutional and other security activities, such as protection of public buildings. Differentiated from Security Guard 2, which requires a lead role on an assigned shift.
Qualifications- Education:
Graduation from a standard high school. Full-time law enforcement, security, or related experience may substitute, year-for-year. - Necessary Special
Qualifications:
Valid motor vehicle operator's license may be required for some positions. - Positive criminal background check required.
- Perform security activities such as patrolling facilities, monitoring alarms and security systems, checking for safety hazards, and violations of laws and rules.
- Operate security equipment, including two-way radios, communication devices, patrol and transport vehicles.
- Control entrance/exit by checking identity, purpose, and authorization; escort individuals as needed.
- Respond to calls and assist in emergency situations, searching for and apprehending missing or unauthorized individuals.
- Advise supervisors on security concerns and communicate with law enforcement agencies for information exchange and assistance.
- Prepare and maintain reports: incident reports, vehicle citations, visitor logs, and personal property reports.

State of Tennessee positions involving driving must meet the following minimum driver qualifications:
- A valid driver's license.
- No record of: driving under the influence (DUI), reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, or more than four moving violations in the past five years.
- Agencies may allow an exception based on other factors.
