Walden Security has an exciting opportunity for an additions Security Utilities Officer for Knoxville Area.

A Utilities Officer covers medical leaves, sicknesses, vacations and open posts that do not have an officer assigned. The utility officer must have open availability (ALL SHIFTS) and be able to work weekends and holidays. The utility officer will need reliable transportation to get to the posts.

If there is a company vehicle at a specific site, the employee will need to have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record (No DUI, multiple accidents or habitual offenders – MVR will be checked). The candidate must be a licensed/legal driver, at least 25 years old, with an acceptable driving record to be covered under the Walden Security car insurance.

Utility officers will be put through a state licensing course to obtain an unarmed security license and will be given on‑the‑job instruction to all of our unarmed clients. The position is paid $18.00 regardless of the post they are assigned, with time and a half paid out after 40 hours. The schedule is released one week prior with exceptions made in emergency situations.

Duties may include the following; other duties may be assigned by the Operations Manager or Branch General Manager:

  • Trained and qualified to work multiple posts, in case of call‑offs or vacations.
  • Patrol buildings and grounds of industrial plant or commercial establishment, docks, logging camp area, or work site periodically.
  • Patrol lobbies, corridors, and public rooms; confer with management, interview guests and employees, and interview persons to detect infringements and investigate disturbances, complaints, thefts, vandalism, and accidents.
  • Patrol public areas to detect fires, unsafe conditions, and missing or inoperative safety equipment.
  • Examine doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure.
  • Perform and set thermostatic controls to maintain specified temperature in buildings or cold storage rooms.
  • Register at watch stations to record time of inspection trips.
  • Inspect assigned areas and record data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment for use by supervisory staff.
  • Watch for and report irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
  • Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehend or expel persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
  • Notify staff of presence of persons with questionable reputations.
  • Permit authorized persons and regulate vehicle/pedestrian traffic at plant entrance to maintain orderly flow.
  • Drive radio‑equipped car through client’s establishment, check alarms, and locate sources of alarm.
  • Sound alarm or call police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  • Assist management and enforcement officers in emergency situations.
  • Apprehend unauthorized persons found on property, using armed force if necessary, and release them to custody of authorities.
  • Contact supervisor by radio or telephone to report irregularities and obtain further instructions.
  • Write investigation and automobile usage reports.

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Utility (Flex) Officers are subject to supervision from Branch/Account Managers, Post Supervisors, and Field Supervisors.
