Location: Knoxville, TN.
Salary: Highly competitive plus benefits.
Contract: Permanent, full‑time.
Reporting to: Director of Electrical and Software Engineering.
- Architect a performant, user‑centered, high‑availability real‑time PCS infrastructure.
- Implement PCS functionality (real‑time execution and configuration) as defined by the PCS Lead, including but not limited to:
- Control algorithms
- Finite state machines for supervisory logic
- Digital filtering
- Computer vision
- Machine‑learning inference
- Translate mathematical models into executable real‑time code.
- Mentor junior software engineers and contribute to a collaborative, high‑performing engineering culture.
- B.S. or M.S. in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
- 7+ years of experience implementing real‑time control systems in production or operational environments.
- Strong expertise in embedded systems and real‑time operating systems (RTOS).
- Deep practical knowledge of concurrent, multi‑threaded, multi‑processor, and networked computation architectures.
- Mastery of C/C++ development.
- Experience implementing digital filters.
- Extensive experience implementing continuous integration and automated testing pipelines.
- Experience with deterministic real‑time communication hardware and protocols (e.g., TSN or similar).
- Significant experience selecting, configuring, and interfacing with high‑speed, real‑time DAQ hardware.
- Demonstrated success leading and delivering complex software development projects.
- Experience developing and implementing plasma control systems for fusion or other high‑energy physics devices.
- Experience deploying machine‑learning algorithms in real‑time or embedded environments.
- Familiarity with high‑availability architectures.
- Experience supporting operational scientific or industrial facilities.
