Summary of Role
The Member Relations Executive is the primary lead for membership growth and retention, including educating businesses about the value of joining the organization and building strong relationships with current members to support retention efforts. The position is responsible for recruiting new chamber members, strengthening relationships with current members, cultivating relationships with new members, and increasing membership retention. Other key responsibilities include Relocation Guide ad sales, business-to-business relations, working with all staff to host, execute and plan events, and supporting Chamber committees as needed.
Key ResponsibilitiesRegular job requirements include engaging with members, potential members, and the public via phone, email, and in‑person communications; conducting interviews for Chamber News & Views and voicing radio commercials and announcements; generating newsletters, surveys, creative materials, social media posts, and ads to promote Chamber membership and events; and assisting in the successful execution of Chamber events such as the Coast Guard Appreciation Dinner, COMFISH, Community Clean Up Day, CRABFEST, and Business After Hours.
Job Duties- Develops and fosters ongoing relationships with Chamber members through strong partnerships and development of services. Visits current members to encourage member involvement and retention.
- Works to recruit new members, focusing on the business or organization’s needs via phone calls, in‑person meetings, door‑knocking, and utilizing a business recruitment list.
- Interacts daily with current and prospective members in‑person, via phone, Zoom or similar platforms, and email to consistently communicate the value of their membership investment.
- Works with the Executive Director to create and develop collateral for the execution of the membership recruitment and retention tasks, including but not limited to introductory letters and programs for memberships and committee communication.
- Inputs all communications and data in CRM to ensure the system is accurate, recording all information regarding join/drop reasons and ongoing communication correctly.
- Creates, updates, and distributes marketing material for the Chamber, including but not limited to the monthly newsletter, email blasts, member spotlights, social media posts, letters, signage, and flyers.
- Attends Chamber events and assists other Chamber staff as necessary to ensure successful event execution, with occasional evenings, weekends, or holidays required.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Professional demeanor when interacting with staff, board of directors, current/prospective members, government officials, and the public.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
- Proven success working in individual and team environments with competing priorities and deadlines.
- Access to reliable transportation and possession of a current Alaska Driver’s License (or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire).
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience with some college and a high‑school diploma.
- 3–5 years of previous customer service, sales, and/or business‑to‑business sales and development experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, and popular social media platforms.
- Experience with Canva, Constant Contact, Adobe Creative Cloud, video creation/editing, Word Press, and CRM software programs.
- Success in planning, executing, and hosting large‑scale events.
- Confidence when networking or engaging in professional communications.
