Position: CDC Director

Salary: $84,439+ DOE/annually

Location: Kodiak, AK

Work Schedule: Full‑time, temporary, not to exceed one year

Hiring Bonus: $2,000 + $1,000 upon hire, $500 at six months, $500 at twelve months

Position Summary

The U.S. Coast Guard Child Development Center (CDC) at Base Kodiak is led by a full‑time temporary director who functions as the focal point for child development services and family childcare programs. The director oversees infant care, toddler care, preschool programs, after‑school care, hourly care, and the in‑home family childcare program for over 100 children and 28 staff members.

Responsibilities

The director’s responsibilities include:

  • Managing the entire cycle of operations for the early childhood program, including budgeting, facility and supply management, program development, and implementation.
  • Selecting, training, supervising, and evaluating staff; overseeing curriculum and educational standards.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, accreditation, local regulations, and Union and Master Labor Agreement requirements.
  • Coordinating with multiple funding sources that have differing regulatory requirements.
  • Maintaining the health and safety of children, responding to emergencies, and ensuring a safe learning environment.
  • Developing and refining methods and techniques to improve child development services within financial and physical constraints.
  • Performing any additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Bachelor’s degree in child development, early childhood education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing all aspects of an early childhood program, including budgeting, facility management, supply management, program development, implementation, personnel selection, training, supervision, and curriculum oversight.
  • Current certification in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive an automobile.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds, sit and rise from the floor, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis; ability to work both indoors and outdoors.
  • Successful completion of a Tier 1 background investigation, including state checks, upon hiring and renewal every five years.
  • Successful completion of the Civilian Medical Clearance Examination, performed pre‑placement and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in compliance with federal, state, accreditation, and local regulations for early childhood programs.
  • Knowledge of union and Master Labor Agreement procedures in a childcare setting.
