Event Services Assistants assist and support community members and residential students who have a variety of needs, questions, and issues; promote an ethos of belonging and engagement with the community on UAA’s residential campus; and support the many aspects of Event Services role of the Event Services Assistant is typically a one-year position.
Event Services is the department that handles the majority of events on campus as well as long-term guest housing for non-students. We have customer service related tasks, cleaning tasks, event tasks, and a variety of special projects that come up. The Event Services student position has three main components: office hours, event duties, and long‑term guest housing.
In the office hours, the student sits at the main desk, answers phone calls and emails, and fills in event requests from submitted forms. They will need to be able to assist walk‑in clients and keep the office presentable. In the event duties, the student will set up events, work events, and break down events. In the long‑term guest housing component, students clean and prep rooms and answer an on‑duty 24/7 phone that is on a weekly rotation.
To thrive in this role, a student needs a willingness to learn, be part of the team, and have attention to detail and reliability. Strong customer service and quality are essential attributes.
Minimum Qualifications- A. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours this semester.
- B. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and plan to enroll in six or more credit hours next semester.
- C. Maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.
- D. Provide evidence of enrollment as described above.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria.
- FERPA certification or completion within 30 days of the job start date.
- Title IX certification or completion within 30 days of the job start date.
- Behavior Based Safety (BBS) certification or completion within 30 days of the job start date.
- Workplace Harassment Prevention certification or completion within 30 days of the job start date.
- Protecting Payment Card Information training (annual training).
This position is located on the University of Alaska campus in Anchorage. It is a part‑time, Student Assistant 2 position with a starting pay of $16.20 per hour.
