KANA is looking for a Regional Energy Manager to help Tribal and municipal communities across the Kodiak and Chugach regions identify and advance practical, sustainable energy solutions.

This position serves as a regional catalyst for renewable energy and energy-efficiency initiatives, helping communities move projects from ideas and planning through funding and implementation. The role combines project management, community engagement, grant development, energy education, and technical coordination to support long-term energy resilience throughout the region.

What You'll Do Energy Project Development
  • Work directly with Tribes and municipal governments to identify energy priorities and opportunities
  • Help communities define, plan, fund, and implement renewable energy and energy-efficiency projects
  • Serve as project manager for assigned energy initiatives
  • Develop project timelines, budgets, deliverables, and reporting requirements
  • Coordinate communication between Tribes, municipalities, funders, vendors, utilities, and other energy stakeholders
  • Help identify funding opportunities and support grant applications for energy projects
Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency
  • Advance adoption of renewable energy and energy-efficiency solutions ranging from building-level improvements to utility-scale projects
  • Support initiatives involving microgrids, distributed energy resources, grid integration, power generation, and energy infrastructure
  • Work with regional partners to identify opportunities to improve energy reliability, efficiency, and affordability
  • Stay informed on renewable energy technologies and rural Alaska energy challenges
Community Engagement & Education
  • Build strong working relationships with Tribal governments, municipalities, utilities, educators, businesses, and community organizations
  • Partner with the Renewable Energy Alaska Project (REAP), schools, utilities, agencies, and other organizations to promote energy education
  • Support energy industry workforce development throughout the Kodiak and Chugach regions
  • Participate in community meetings, Tribal gatherings, workshops, and educational events
  • Help translate complex energy concepts into practical information for community partners and stakeholders
Partnerships & Program Development
  • Collaborate with other Alaska South Coast Partnership Regional and Community Catalysts
  • Work with KANA leadership and grant staff to develop new programs and services
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration across KANA departments
  • Develop partnerships and joint projects that advance KANA's mission and benefit communities
  • Help identify additional funding opportunities that can expand regional energy programs
What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies, Engineering, Indigenous Studies, Project Management, or a related field
  • Four years of relevant professional experience, education, or training; an equivalent combination may be considered
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including planning, budgeting, tracking deliverables, and reporting
  • Strong understanding of energy systems and infrastructure
  • Ability to work effectively with Tribal governments, municipalities, community organizations, and diverse stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
Preferred Knowledge & Experience
  • Experience working in rural Alaska's energy industry
  • Knowledge of power generation, power distribution, engineering, and utility operations
  • Experience with microgrids, distributed energy resources, grid integration, control systems, or energy infrastructure
  • Understanding of Alaska renewable energy regulations and programs, including PCE, IPPs, and PPAs
  • Experience working with Tribal organizations or Alaska Native communities
  • Knowledge of KANA and the Alaska Tribal Health System
Travel & Schedule

This position is based in Kodiak, Alaska
, with occasional travel to villages throughout the region and off-island travel.
