Job SummaryThe City of Kodiak is recruiting for a full‑time contracted exempt City Manager. The City Manager is the chief administrative officer and head of the administrative branch of the City government. Under policy direction of the City Council, the City Manager plans, directs, manages, and oversees the activities and operations of the City of Kodiak; is responsible to the City Council for executing City laws and ordinances and implements the policy decisions made by the City Council;
provides information on policy, legislative, and financial decisions; ensures that public services are delivered in an efficient and effective manner; maintains contact with the citizens of Kodiak city to determine problems and provide information; facilitates the development and implementation of City goals and objectives; and provides highly complex administrative support to the City Council.
- Plan, direct, manage, and oversee the activities and operations of the City of Kodiak.
- Execute City laws, ordinances, and policy decisions made by the City Council.
- Provide information on policy, legislative, and financial decisions to the City Council.
- Ensure that public services are delivered efficiently and effectively.
- Maintain contact with citizens of Kodiak to determine problems and provide information.
- Facilitate the development and implementation of City goals and objectives.
- Provide highly complex administrative support to the City Council.
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum of five to seven years experience in municipal government administrative or executive capacity.
- At least five years of supervisory and personnel management experience.
- Investment experience.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform essential duties.
Kodiak is a home‑rule city with a council‑manager form of government. The City of Kodiak has about 6,000 residents, with approximately 7,000 additional residents living in several communities on Kodiak Island. The economy is based on commercial fishing and seafood processing, with tourism, sport hunting and fishing, the aerospace industry, health care, and government employment also contributing. Kodiak is home to the largest United States Coast Guard base in the nation and is known for its scenic beauty.
ResidencyAt the time of appointment, the manager need not be a resident of the City or State; but during tenure, the manager must reside within the City.
