Overview
The primary responsibility of this position is to maintain and repair the machines that head, gut, and skin fish. Special training on the machine is given by the factory.
Responsibilities- Train Baader machine operators in a safe and efficient operation.
- Participate and train operators in cleaning activities, which occur prior to, and following production periods.
- Repair and maintain the mechanical and electrical systems of all Baader machines, including chain drives, bearings, belt drives, back guides, pulleys, step motors, bone guides.
- Communicate with quality control and production personnel to ensure highest yield values are achieved.
- Make adjustments to machines to ensure that high yields are being successfully achieved.
- Complete related maintenance documentation including machine log books, work orders, test reports, part inventory and parts order logs.
- Set and adjust spike chain guides, knives, sliding blocks in accordance with the operation manuals and safety procedures.
- Test the machines to verify step motors and tooling are set up and running properly.
- Utilize down time to maintain machines mechanically and electrically to prevent down time during production.
- Maintain production for a 12‑hour shift with Baader equipment.
- Communicate and train upcoming technical personnel.
- Grease machines daily.
- Change and sharpen knives daily.
- Speak and communicate in English.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Seating:
Opportunity to sit during lunch and breaks. - Standing:
Up to 100% of shift while observing and repairing machine operations; involves making several steps within a work area. Usual time at a workstation is up to 3 hours, followed by a 10–15 minute break. - Walking:
Up to 80% of the shift, possibly with or without load. Surfaces include wet or icy surfaces, grated steps, catwalks, wet concrete floor, and ladders. - Lifting:
Up to 80% of the shift, often repetitively (e.g., moving machine parts, tools, supplies). Weight ranges: up to 10 lbs (sedentary), up to 25 lbs (medium), up to 50 lbs (heavy). - Carrying:
Up to 50% of the shift carrying parts, tools, supplies. - Over‑shoulder reaching:
Up to 20% of shift. - Reaching below shoulders:
Up to 50% of shift. - Pushing/Pulling:
Up to 20% of shift. - Bending/Kneeling/Crawling:
Up to 40% of shift; most bending is slight angle, reduced with proper body mechanics. - Twisting:
Up to 80% of shift, upper torso with and without load, usually when working on Baader machine. - Climbing/Balancing:
Up to 15% of shift; may involve climbing several steps near Baader machine. Grated decking may be wet and slick; must climb stairs multiple times during shift. - Simple grasping:
Up to 50% of shift, with and without load, such as using hand or power tools and supplies. - Fine manipulation:
Up to 100% of shift, e.g., cleaning and repairing equipment. - Vision/Hearing:
Average functional capacity; accurate visual decision‑making necessary. Correction with glasses is acceptable. - Environmental:
Continuous wet environment; employees may wear rain gear, rubber boots, gloves, hairnets, warm clothing, hard hats, ear and eye protection as needed.
- Minimum 5 years experience with Baader equipment.
- Knowledge of and ability to adjust Baader machines to increase production, quality, and recovery.
- Knowledge of creating and maintaining a safe work environment.
- Ability to recognize, correct, and report safety hazards.
- Professional demeanor when interacting with co‑workers, supervisors, employees, outside agencies and vendors.
- Proficient in English (speaking, reading, writing, comprehension).
- Team‑player ability to collaborate with co‑workers, supervisors, and other departments.
- Prompt arrival and attendance.
