Position Overview

KANA is seeking a compassionate, engaging, and community-focused Wellness & Prevention Specialist to develop and deliver wellness education, prevention programming, and community outreach throughout the Kodiak region.

This position works directly with youth, adults, families, schools, villages, and community partners to promote wellness and prevention through education, events, trainings, and culturally responsive programming. The ideal candidate is comfortable speaking to groups, building relationships, organizing events, and adapting programs to meet the needs of diverse communities.

What You'll Do Wellness & Prevention Programming
  • Plan, organize, promote, and host wellness and prevention education events throughout KANA's service region
  • Facilitate community-based prevention groups, discussions, trainings, and educational activities
  • Develop programming focused on health and wellness topics affecting youth, adults, and special populations
  • Provide education related to substance use, suicide prevention, mental health, resiliency, protective factors, and other relevant health topics
  • Stay current on emerging health and prevention information to support effective community education
  • Incorporate culturally appropriate approaches into wellness and prevention activities
Community Outreach
  • Provide services in villages, schools, homes, and other community settings
  • Participate in KANA's village health fair schedule
  • Develop relationships with village community members and community partners
  • Provide information and resources about KANA Health services
  • Support special population initiatives and community-specific wellness activities
  • Travel to villages following adverse events to provide community support, educational presentations, discussions, and individual contacts when requested
What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in public speaking, education/training facilitation, event planning, community outreach, or a related area
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills
  • Ability to facilitate groups and communicate health information effectively
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with community members and partners
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Intermediate computer skills, including email, internet, word processing, and spreadsheets
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree
  • Experience with program management
  • Grant writing experience
  • Clerical or administrative experience
  • Experience working with youth
  • Experience with social media, website content, event applications, or online media creation and publishing tools
