Brief Description

All KANA positions are based in Kodiak and are not eligible for remote work. Applicants must reside in Kodiak or be willing to relocate.

KANA’s standard work schedule is 37.5 working hours per week, typically consisting of 7.5 paid working hours per day plus a one‑hour unpaid lunch break (total of 8.5 hours per day).

The Ambulatory Float Pool Registered Nurse is an outpatient flexible position, working in team support, patient care administration, and direct patient care capacity with a variety of day‑to‑day tasks and/or physical location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works within a team‑based model of care to support colleagues and patients with excellent customer service. Communicates effectively, manages orders, follows RN triage and case‑management protocols, accurately documents in EMR.
  • Responds to urgent or emergent medical situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Participates in quality improvement protocols or projects as requested.
  • Ensures compliance with all health‑care regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, and quality measures according to AAAHC accreditation and HRSA clinical measures.
Triage Registered Nurse
  • Prioritizes and triages patients on the floor and by telephone, implementing triage policies to facilitate care advice and coordination and escalation when necessary.
  • Independently addresses patient, family, provider, staff, and outside‑facility calls with excellent customer service.
  • Performs triage assessment by phone and in the office, processes provider orders accurately and timely, and proposes orders appropriately by protocol.
  • Collects information regarding patients’ concerns, medical history, and symptoms via telephone using the nursing process with symptom‑based protocols.
Infection Control/Employee Health Registered Nurse
  • Helps with infection control prevention measures, surveillance programs, and mitigation efforts during gaps in coverage.
  • Participates in blood‑borne pathogen exposure assessment, treatment and follow‑up.
  • Participates in preventative screening programs (TB skin testing, influenza, hepatitis B, MMR, varicella, and other immunizations) and surveillance programs.
  • Responsible for pre‑employment testing and vaccination processes, annual N95/TB/Influenza testing, and management of blood exposures, illnesses, and disease outbreaks.
  • Maintains a system for reporting communicable disease incidents and notifying the Public Health Department and the State of Alaska Health Department and Social Services of reportable diseases.
Ambulatory Floor Registered Nurse
  • Participates in all aspects of patient clinical encounters: prepares the exam room, welcomes patients, performs intake, supports providers, facilitates education and discharge, and maintains sterile supplies.
  • Works with providers, triage RNs, case managers, and SRS staff to ensure efficient patient flow and access to medical providers.
  • Gives medication, injections or treatments, and performs routine laboratory tests as ordered.
  • Contacts patients to report labs and other diagnostic results and handles portal communications promptly.
  • Requests medical records from other facilities as needed.
  • Maintains cleanliness, stocks rooms, disinfects surfaces daily, and re‑sterilizes equipment as required.
  • Schedules qualified patients for appointments and follows up with patients or families who miss appointments.
  • Monitors and keeps routine population health screenings in the EHR and other registries.
  • Sees patients in the Nursing Clinic for injections, vital signs, and other assessments per protocol.
  • Maintains flexibility and assists other floor staff to keep clinic flow and patient care efficient, communicating waits to patients.
