The Fish and Game Coordinator directs research and commercial fisheries management activities for crab, scallops, Pacific cod, and rockfish across multiple regions in Alaska's Westward Region. The position serves as the Region IV crab fisheries scientific adviser, participates in Board of Fisheries and North Pacific Fisheries Management Council meetings, and oversees all shellfish and groundfish research activities. The incumbent develops research projects, manages staff and budgets, and works with state and federal agencies to ensure sustainable harvest of major fisheries.
Keyqualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biology, limnology, oceanography, forestry, or natural resource management
- Seven years professional experience as a fisheries, wildlife, or habitat biologist with at least one year as a program manager or technical expert
- Comprehensive knowledge of fishery biology and field survey and laboratory analysis techniques
- Ability to plan, supervise, and manage large complex research projects and staff
- Strong oral and written communication skills for presenting research to technical and non-technical audiences
- Valid driver's license and basic First Aid/CPR certification
