Overview
The Alaska Center for Conservation Science (ACCS) at the University of Alaska Anchorage seeks a dynamic and experienced Invasive Plant Management Crew Leader to support plant identification, field documentation, and invasive plant eradication in remote Alaskan field settings.
Responsibilities- Identify plant species, document occurrence and distribution, and assess field conditions, trends, and ecological correlations.
- Apply herbicides safely to target invasive species and store, handle, and apply herbicides following proper protocols.
- Operate and maintain resource management tools and monitoring equipment; follow wilderness safety protocols and Leave No Trace principles.
- Collect, manage, and conduct quality control and assurance for GPS and GIS data using ESRI software.
- Collaborate with ACCS staff and the IMPT liaison to plan, execute, and submit technical work products.
- Lead and manage a crew in remote Alaskan field locations, ensuring safety and compliance with public land management frameworks.
- Bachelor’s degree in botany, ecology, biology, environmental science, or a related field; equivalent combination of training and experience acceptable.
- Six months or more of field experience relevant to invasive plant management.
- Prior experience applying herbicides to target invasive plants in remote Alaskan field locations.
- Experience serving as a field crew leader or manager of a team.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- State of Alaska Certified Pesticide Applicator within 60 days of hire.
- Valid driver’s license and completion of required safety courses by the University of Alaska and the Department of the Interior.
- Background check performed by the Department of the Interior.
This full‑time non‑exempt, externally funded position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus.
