Overview
The City of Kodiak is recruiting for a full-time Heavy Fleet Mechanic in the Public Works Department. The Department is looking for an experienced team player that has a desire to be a part of a progressive Public Works Department working hard to serve the needs of our community.
Responsibilities- Under general supervision, perform a variety of specialized and journey level duties involved in repairing and maintaining mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems on light and heavy gasoline and diesel vehicles, emergency response vehicles/equipment, trucks, and equipment; inspect, diagnose, overhauls, repair, and adjust engines, transmissions, and related vehicle systems and components; service and perform preventive maintenance duties; conduct safety inspections; and maintain records and reports.
- Ensure work reflects positively on the City and the Department through professional workmanship and responsible maintenance practices.
- High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) and one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school and four years of automotive, diesel and heavy equipment repair experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties of the job.
- Valid Alaska Drivers License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Valid Alaska Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B within six months of hire
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- Valid Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) certifications
- Valid Alaska Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A
