About

The Role

The overall purpose and objective of the Journeyman Mechanic position is to maintain and repair mechanical problems that arise with company-powered and non-powered equipment and to perform those functions in a safe, efficient, and economical manner. Required to perform a full range of component overhauls and repairs including inspecting, troubleshooting, welding, and electrical components testing and or replacing, and refrigeration diagnostics and repair as needed.

You’ll Do
  • Troubleshoot defects and malfunctions and determine the type or extent of the repair.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues.
  • Perform welder duties using electric and wire-fed, acetylene, and or inert gas-shielded welding processes.
  • Perform body and fender-related repairs.
  • Perform vehicle and chassis prep work for painting.
  • Perform other mechanic duties as assigned.
You Have These Skills
  • Computer skills required to the extent necessary to perform the required job functions.
And These Qualifications
  • Must understand current highway truck emission regulations.
  • Must be able to operate electronic troubleshooting programs.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot and diagnose 480V 3-phase generators and posts.
  • Must be able to perform maintenance on wheeled commercial trailer chassis, industrial equipment, automotive, engines, special purpose, and material handling equipment.
  • Must be able to perform diagnostics and repairs on Cummins Industrial, CAT, Deutz and Volvo engines.
  • Must be able to perform diagnostics and repair on Eaton and Allison Automatic Transmissions.
  • Must be able to maintain preventative maintenance schedules on all light, medium, and heavy‑duty equipment.
  • Must be able to perform technical inspections of equipment and determine the scope of the repair.
  • Must be able to modify, fabricate, and install equipment as needed.
  • Must be able to meet and maintain Commercial motor vehicle inspector qualifications as well as brake inspector qualifications for DOT compliance.
  • Must pass training for OSHA and company safety training including but not limited to Lock-out/Tag-out (LOTO) and Hazardous Materials.
  • Must be able to operate all equipment, including diagnostics, to perform functions of the job.
  • Must have the ability and knowledge to work on refrigerant, welding, forklift, and top pick.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Alaska commercial driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC card.
  • Ability to work all shifts and any weekdays, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
  • Union members selected for an interview must bring a dispatch form from Union Local 959.
  • Non-union candidates selected for an interview must become a union member if hired but not before the interview.
  • Current driving history going back a minimum of 5 years.
  • Must be able to pass a background upon job offer.
Extra Credit If You Have
  • Refrigeration, welding, diesel, and heavy equipment mechanic experience preferred.
Physical Requirements

Mechanics are involved in constant physical activity while standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, bending, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching.
