Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic, Automotive Technician
The City of Kodiak is recruiting for a full-time Heavy Fleet Mechanic in the Public Works Department. The Department is looking for an experienced team player that has a desire to be a part of a progressive Public Works Department working hard to serve the needs of our community.
ResponsibilitiesUnder general supervision, this position performs a variety of specialized and journey level duties involved in performing minor and major repairs to and maintaining a variety of mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems on light and heavy gasoline and diesel vehicles, emergency response vehicles/equipment, trucks, and equipment; inspects, diagnoses, overhauls, repairs, and adjusts engines, transmissions, and related vehicle systems and components; services and performs preventive maintenance duties on a variety of vehicles and equipment;
conducts safety inspections; and maintains a variety of records and reports.
The City of Kodiak owns and operates a wide range of vehicles and equipment. The Heavy Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the efficient delivery of a variety of journey level duties in repair, maintenance, and record keeping on vehicles and equipment. The Heavy Fleet Mechanic must perform these duties in a manner that reflects positively on the City and the Department.
QualificationsHigh school diploma or General Education Development (GED) and one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school and four years of automotive, diesel and heavy equipment repair experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing Requirements- Valid Alaska Drivers License or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
- Valid Alaska Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B within six months of hire
- First Aid/CPR Certification
- Valid Automotive Service Excellence (A.S.E.) certifications
- Valid Alaska Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A
Starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
