Department

DIVISION OF EDUCATION (KO-EDUC-IUKOA)

Department Specific Responsibilities
  • Oversees the clinical placements for all programs within the School of Education and supports recruitment, partnership, and retention efforts.
  • Secures and coordinates school-based field placements including student teaching of undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Education.
  • Manages the student teaching program, including policies/procedures, application, eligibility, placements, and monitoring of progress.
  • Oversees the expanded criminal background clearance process of all School of Education students placed in field settings.
  • Serves as the School of Education's Licensing Officer and works closely with the Indiana Department of Education to implement teacher licensing requirements and recommend teacher candidates for licensure.
  • Leads the recruitment, training, and support of university supervisors to ensure consistent clinical supervision and candidate evaluation.
  • Develops and facilitates training, calibration, and professional learning for university supervisors, cooperating teachers, and clinical partners.
  • Monitors and strengthens the quality and consistency of clinical supervision, observation, feedback, and evaluation across placements.
  • Collaborates with faculty to strengthen connections among coursework, field experiences, student teaching, and candidate performance.
  • Leads recruitment efforts for Division of Education programs and pathways.
  • Coordinates the School of Education's Center for Educational Partnership, a network of 35 plus public school districts in the IU Kokomo service region.
  • Represents the School of Education at statewide meetings to stay abreast of changes to state laws and requirements that affect teacher education programs.
General Responsibilities
  • Determines additional support needs through consultation and designs resources to meet educational support needs.
  • Participates in educational resources initiatives in coordination with faculty and staff to improve student academic outcomes and improve classroom experience.
  • Plans seminars, workshops, and other events for faculty, associate instructors, and students, as requested and appropriate by faculty.
  • Advances programs from individual consultations/workshops to larger-scale transformative events/projects when appropriate.
  • Researches industry trends in the areas of educational theory and practice and incorporates best practices into educational resources initiatives.
  • May oversee student testing administration and consult regularly with students regarding coordination of educational resources.
  • May take on particularly complex consultation opportunities to address significant opportunities in educational support.
Qualifications Education
  • Required:

    Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Preferred:
    Master's degree in education or a related field
Work Experience
  • Required:

    5 years in related field
  • Preferred: 5 years of experience in P-12 schools (teaching or administration) and/or higher education.
  • 3 years of experience as a director of clinical experiences and/or licensing advisor in an educator preparation program
  • Experience working with teacher candidates, preservice educators, practicing educators, and/or clinical experiences.
  • Experience developing, facilitating, coaching, mentoring, or supporting professional learning for teachers, teacher candidates, cooperating teachers, mentor teachers, and/or university supervisors.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with school districts, community partners, faculty, staff, and students.
