Summary:

The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) provides comprehensive primary and preventive healthcare services to infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. The PNP independently assesses, diagnoses, treats, and manages acute and chronic pediatric health conditions while promoting healthy growth and development. The PNP collaborates with physicians and other healthcare professionals to provide family-centered care, health education, disease prevention, and continuity of care for pediatric patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Conduct comprehensive age-appropriate health assessments, including obtaining medical, developmental, behavioral, psychosocial, and family health histories; performing physical examinations; and evaluating laboratory and diagnostic findings to identify actual or potential health concerns.
  • Diagnose, treat, and manage acute illnesses, chronic conditions, and minor injuries in infants, children, adolescents, and young adults using advanced clinical judgment and evidence-based practice.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate individualized plans of care that promote wellness, disease prevention, and optimal patient outcomes while distinguishing between normal and abnormal findings.
  • Perform preventive and well-child examinations, monitor growth and developmental milestones, administer and recommend immunizations, and provide age-appropriate health screenings in accordance with established clinical guidelines.
  • Order, perform, and interpret laboratory tests, diagnostic studies, and other assessments necessary for patient diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management.
  • Educate patients, parents, guardians, families, and caregivers regarding health conditions, treatment plans, medications, nutrition, safety, growth and development, preventive care, and health promotion strategies.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, specialists, schools, community resources, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care, coordinate services, and achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Initiate appropriate consultations, referrals, and follow-up care while communicating significant findings and changes in patient condition to relevant healthcare providers.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation and participate in clinical data collection, quality improvement initiatives, population health efforts, and performance improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based practice, professional development, workplace safety, and the integration of current research and best practices into patient care.
  • Foster a positive patient and family experience by identifying customer needs, promoting patient satisfaction, and delivering compassionate, family-centered pediatric care.
  • Identify and appropriately respond to pediatric safety concerns, including suspected abuse, neglect, or other risk factors, in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications

Education and/or

Experience:
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Indiana Registered Nurse (RN) license and Indiana Nurse Practitioner license.
