About Miami Correctional Facility:
Miami Correctional Facility is a level-four high-medium-security facility located in Bunker Hill, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 3,100 incarcerated adult males. The facility sits on former Grissom Air Force Base property and also includes a level-one facility with capacity for more than 200 incarcerated adult males. Miami Correctional Facility offers extensive educational and vocational programming, including a Braille translation program and a sewing shop serving community partners.
Incarcerated individuals gain hands-on skills that build employability for re-entry and the programs help individuals develop strong work habits and meaningful experience. Employees at Miami Correctional Facility support the safe and secure operations of the facility 24 hours a day 7 days per week. Depending on operational needs, assignments will include working with state incarcerated individuals and/or federal detainees.
Role Overview:
As a Correctional Casework Manager you will supervise, train, and review the performance of Correctional Caseworkers. You will also manage a caseload of incarcerated individuals, assessing their risk and needs to develop, implement, and review their case plan.
Salary:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education and work experience. Eligible non-custody staff who complete required training and certification to perform federal detention duties will receive a $20 non-discretionary bonus for each shift that they are assigned those duties.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Provide immediate supervision to your Correctional Caseworker team for adherence to policy and procedure through the use of routine CQI assessments.
- Supervise, train, coach, and review the performance of correctional caseworkers assigned to the unit team, assess individual strengths and weaknesses, utilize regular evaluations and frequent informal reviews of staff performance in accordance with the standards, guidelines and policies of the Department and State Personnel Department.
- Assess each assigned offender's risks and needs utilizing the Individual Indiana Risk Assessment System (IRAS).
- Coordinate with all appropriate facility staff to address re-entry and release issues.
- Provide group and individual programming for re-entry and release as required.
- Coordinate with the classification department staff to make appropriate classification recommendations for offenders.
- Conduct unit orientation for newly received offenders.
- Motivate and guide offenders towards positive, prosocial change by using creative approaches to strengthen relationships and reduce environmental risk factors.
- Maintain high security standards in the unit and facility.

Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
- Must test negative on all drug screenings.
- Ability to write records of offenders.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage the work of the staff.
- Ability to establish a working relationship with staff and offenders.
- Knowledge and ability to utilize conflict resolution techniques.
You must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:
- Within 90 days of hire, you must obtain the Indiana Risk Assessment System Certification through the Indiana Office of Court Services.
- Complete all mandatory training, including all IRIS and Case Management specific training, DOC Supervisory Training Program, First Aid, and CPR courses.
- A degree is not required. However, a High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE) and at least 2+ years of experience in social work, corrections, criminal justice, or related field applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.
