Job Description

Job Summary: This position works under the direction of the special education teacher and the building principal. The CBRS is responsible for providing Psycho‑Social Rehabilitation services to students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. The CBRS also monitors, redirects, instructs, and modifies student progress regarding inappropriate behaviors and performance and maintains progress monitoring data that includes Medicaid billing.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science, education or medicine
  • At least 21 semester credit hours in human service fields such as psychology, social work, special education, counseling or psychosocial rehabilitation
  • USPRA certification or a plan to obtain certification within 18 months from the point of hire
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish the major duties listed below
  • Positive public relations skills
Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide one‑on‑one rehabilitation therapy with an assigned student(s) to include:
    • Training in behavior control
    • Social skills
    • Communication skills
    • Appropriate interpersonal behavior
    • Symptom management
    • Coping skills
    • Cognitive communication/adaptive skills
    • Interpersonal behavior
    • Activities of daily living and independent learning skills
  • Aid students in work, school, or with other issues related to their identified disability by obtaining skills to live independently or by preventing movement to a more restrictive situation
  • Provide strategies in designing planned interventions for challenging students
  • Provide service for the progressive reduction of the effects of a mental health disability
  • Provide student interventions in social skills training to improve communication skills and facilitate appropriate interpersonal behavior
  • Assist students in gaining and utilizing skills necessary to participate in school – academic support, behavior control, social skills, communication skills, successful interpersonal behavior and coping skills
  • Observe students, collect data and provide classroom and school support
  • Assist in the development of behavior intervention plans
  • Teach and model positive social skills
  • Modify interventions as needed (with team consensus)
  • Provide assistance with de‑escalating student behaviors and reintegration back into the classroom
  • Collaborate with the Special Education team and take direction from the Special Education teacher
  • Support Positive Behavioral Intervention System initiatives and practices
  • Follow the student’s IEP to reach the goals set forth for the student
  • Maintain progress notes on daily activities with the student
  • Review student progress towards goals formally by the quarter/trimester and informally weekly
  • Complete billing information according to established procedures (Medicaid)
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Follow board policies, district procedures and contractual obligations
  • Complete other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities which permit the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively on the telephone and in person
  • Sufficient vision or other powers of observation which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and review and prepare documents and file them in a prescribed order, and organize documents and materials
  • Sufficient manual dexterity which permits the employee to operate a personal computer and other office equipment
  • May be required to block or redirect students
  • Must be able to effectively supervise and support staff when consequences are implemented including supervising physical restraint and seclusion if necessary for safety
  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Walk and stand for extended periods of time
  • Reach with hands and arms
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds
