Summary:

The Mission of the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) is to create a model correctional system that provides equitable access to programming and opportunities that reflect community experience, foster connections, and restore victims of crime. The Idaho Department of Correction is currently recruiting for a full time Special Education Program Manager. This announcement will be used to fill a vacancy at the Idaho State Correctional Institution (ISCI) in Boise, Idaho.

The role oversees the full educational program with a primary focus on developing, implementing, and maintaining Special Education programs while promoting continuous improvement in teaching and learning. Responsibilities include hiring and supporting certified instructors, directing curriculum and scheduling, conducting classroom observations, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and state credentialing requirements. The position also monitors student progress, maintains essential records, and collaborates with instructors and institutional leadership to ensure a safe, effective, and accountable learning environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Hire and onboard certified educational instructors, set and manage employee schedules, manage employee performance, provide written feedback and annual evaluations, and lead educators in best practices.
  • Work with Instructors to design personalized professional learning plans and ensure each Instructor maintains an Idaho Education Credential.
  • Review and discuss monthly instructor progress reports with staff to ensure continued student achievement and instructor accountability.
  • Complete Danielson Model training and perform classroom observations to provide instructor feedback throughout the year.
  • Administration of the overall education program and coordination with other departmental programs.
  • Plan, direct, and evaluate academic and/or vocational education programs.
  • Plan curriculum and determine class schedule.
  • Implement site policies and procedures based on IDOC Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Meet accreditation standards.
  • Maintain program records and prepare reports.
  • Maintain connection between institutional administration, and education staff.
  • Monitor educational program to maintain security and safety of students and staff.
  • Interpret assessment results and conduct student interviews to determine class enrollment and assignments.
  • Evaluate student educational progress and prepare reports.
  • Counsel students regarding educational progress.
Minimum Qualifications:

Your resume needs to clearly articulate how your skills, education and experience meet the qualifications below –

  • Eligible for Standard Secondary Education Certificate issued by the Idaho State Department of Education; OR Eligible for Vocational Specialist Certificate and/or Standard Education Certificate issued by the Idaho State Department of Education.
  • Good knowledge of counseling and intervention methods. Typically gained by at least three (3) years of work experience utilizing counseling and intervention methods for adults; OR a bachelor’s degree in education.
  • Good knowledge of curriculum development and application; theories, methods, practices, and equipment used in education programs. Typically gained by at least three (3) years of work experience developing and implementing curriculum AND utilizing theories, methods, practices, and equipment in an educational program; OR a bachelor's degree in education.
  • Some knowledge of behavioral characteristics of at-risk populations. Typically gained by at least one (1) year of work experience serving/teaching at risk students with a history of school performance and/or behavior problems; OR at least nine (9) months of work experience serving/teaching at risk students with a history of school performance and/or behavior problems; AND completion of a three (3) credit upper division college level course in childhood and adolescent…
